philosophy.

in the coming months i will be writing a philosophy dissertation on jewellery and surfaces. i also have slightly ambitious plans to supplement this writing with a number of shorter essays: on suicide, on nietzsche’s lying, on hume & emotion in conservatism, on football, on deleuze’s francis bacon and the ‘inside’, and on adler.

music.

i have made approx. 24 albums since 2019 under a couple of different aliases. most of this music is not very good, mostly because i started making it when i was 15 with no serious music education. as time went on, i began to work out what exactly i wanted to do with songwriting, which it turned out was to make maximalist ‘bedroom’ ‘pop’ that spoke to my influences (cardiacs, mew, everything everything etc.) without sounding like any of them. i made exactly one album that i think succeeds at this goal without qualification: forever now and keep yourself safe. i made it from 2021-2023 and then my harddrive that kept all my project files exploded and i have since changed workflow and moved house 3 times and now i am not sure what to do with music. it is likely that the next album i make will be under my actual name and will not sound anything like fnkys. i have been listening to a lot of cameron winter and jerskin fendrix and learning to love again and i’m sure this will be relevant.

journalism

i was editor-in-chief of the glasgow guardian for 1 year and culture editor/music editor before that. it was an arduous but rewarding experience and it is my ambition to use that experience to brave the tumult of the culture journalism plane, with the secondary hope of synthesising my work on jewellery and philosophy of art more broadly with my journalistic endeavours. if you have ever liked my writing i will write for you.
